Media Resources are spaces to support a wide variety of learning activities; used multiple ways throughout the day. Traditionally, the library has been a quiet, structured workspace where food is not allowed. Today’s school library, re-imagined as Media Resources, is a versatile, state-of-the-art learning environment that supports collaborative, project-based work as well as individual formal work. It’s flexible and adapts to student needs.
Are there enhanced acoustics to support multiple learning activities occurring simultaneously?
Are there a variety of height and/or depth options for seating?
Are there whiteboards to support movement-rich activities such as brainstorming?
With its size and support of multiuse learning, consider building placement near or adjacent to café and/or special education. Also consider placement near teacher collaboration workrooms and/or resources to support more regular professional development.
Highly visible and easily accessible to all learners. A centralized location within the campus communicates the importance of its function. It should serve as a social “hub” for school activity.
