Dining space can support after school programs or clubs, and serve as community centers providing a range of services such as legal counsel, vaccines and mental wellness support. SCUSD aspires to have evening and weekend events that raise funds for some of the community partner nonprofits that are doing great work on the campuses. Farm to Fork events that lead up to the festival could included tours and tastings at the Central Kitchen. PTA groups will be invited to food tastings to connect them to the nutrition program.
Is the space right-sized with up-to-date technology?
Does the Café have room for inquiry-based learning to display student work in progress and store it?
Can the Café also support learning activities such as art, science and robotics?
At the elementary levels, the Office of Child Development (OCD) provides students with breakfast and supper respectively. Flex Studios should include small kitchens for meal prep and service. Consider food transfer from central kitchen to Flex Studios.
Separate entrances should be provided with secure after-hours zones created through security grills, key-card access, and/or operable panels. Zone the space so that use doesn’t require access to the main campus. Assure family restrooms are immediately accessible.
